(Neb)-Blues Sweep The Reds In The Panhandle Prep All-Star Games
SCOTTSBLUFF - The Blue swept the Red last night at the 2020 Panhandle Prep All Star Basketball games at the WNCC Cougar Palace, taking the Girls game 60-51 and the Boys game 113-105.
On the Girls side, the Blue All-Stars led nearly start to finish. A run by the Reds to open the 4th quarter closed the gap, but the Blues did enough down the stretch to clinch the win.
Harley Hiltibrand of Ogallala and the Blues was named MVP and scored 10 point, but had a lot of help as her high school teammate Kaylee Wach matched her 10 and Maddie Fronstrom of Pine Bluffs had a team-high 11
Yara Garcia of Scottsbluff, who is heading to WNCC to play basketball, had a game-high 12 for the Red. Gordon-Rushville's Sierra Garrett had 4 points while Maddie Hamar of Chadron and Suzanna Parker were both shutout.
The Boys game was a back-and-forth affair before the Blues built just enough of a lead down the stretch for the win.
MVP Caeden Riley of Lingle Ft Laramie earned the VMP despite having just 13 points and was one of 7 Blues to score in double-figures - a group that included Scottsbluff grad and WNCC recruit Jasiya DeOllos with 21 and Sioux County's Tristan Hunter with 12. Chadron High's Trevor Berry added 5 and Tommy Watson of Sioux County had 4.
WNCC recruit Carter Brown of Ogallala and the Red team, had 30 in the 1st half and ended with a game high 36. Cooper Heusman of Chadron, who played in last week's Shrine Bowl and is in next week's West Nebraska All-Star Football Game, scored 16 while Will Ackerman of Crawford added 3 and Wyatt Stauffer of Lusk had 1.
New Crawford superintendent Mo Hanks, the Kimball High head boys coach the last several years, was an assistant on the Red Boys team.
