(Neb)-Chadron And Sidney-Cheyenne County Win Panhandle Covid Conf Junior Openers

The 5-team, double-elimination Panhandle Covid Conference Junior Tournament, the region's coronavirus replacement for American Legion baseball this summer, began Friday night at Maurice Horse Field in Chadron with the host Chadron FNBO Junior Nationals getting off to great start.
Behind the two-hit pitching of ace Shane Frye, the Junior Nats blanked Gering 8-0 in six innings while scoring in every inning except the fifth.
Broc Berry had three hits for Chadron while Seth Gaswick, Xander Provance and Noah Brown each had two hits.
In Friday's other game, top-seeded Sidney-Cheyenne County improved to 10-0 on the season by beating Sheridan County 10-0 in six innings.
There are 4 games Saturday and Chadron will play in 2 of them. In the one they won't be in, Sheridan County and Gering face off at 2:00 with the loser eliminated.
Chadron takes on 2nd-seeded Alliance at 11:30 with the winner meeting Sidney-Cheyenne County at 4:30 in the winner's bracket semifinals while the Chadron-Alliance loser takes on the Gering-Sheridan County survivor
Sunday's action begins at 2:00 with the winners bracket semi loser playing winner of Saturday's late game. That winner moves into the championship game at 4:30 and if they beat the unbeaten team, a second championship game will start at 7:00.
