(Neb.)- NSAA Makes Bowling A Sanctioned Sport, Football & XC See Changes
(Chadrad Sports)- Girls wrestling wasn't the only decision taken up by the NSAA at their meeting on Wednesday. Boys and girls bowling will become a sanctioned sport starting next season, but may be pushed back to 2021-22 depending on the ongoing situation with coronavirus.
Bowling was approved by both the NSAA board of directors and the representative assembly. The vote by the representative assembly was 31-20 vote, with the 31 votes the minimum needed to sanction a new sport. Bowling will be the first new sport added to the NSAA since softball in 1993.
The board also approved starting 8-man playoffs with a substate round of 32 based on geography. The 16 winners would then be placed in to a statewide bracket format just like classes A through C2 are already doing.
Class C Cross Country will be expanded in the fall from 44 schools up to 60.
It was also announced that the board will meet in June due to the COVID-19 situation. Board meetings aren't typically held over the summer.
