(Neb)-NCAA Fan Ban Affecting CSC
KALEB CENTER CSC Sports Information Director
CHADRON, Neb. -- Fan attendance at upcoming sporting events involving Chadron State College teams and student-athletes may be curtailed due to the spread of the COVID-19 virus. It is crucial that fans check the latest information releases by host institutions throughout the upcoming weeks before traveling, in order to coordinate attendance with the policies of the host institutions.
Those who had planned to attend the CSC softball games at MSU Denver on Saturday and Sunday should be advised of the following statement by the host school:
"As a precautionary measure related to limiting the potential risk of exposure to COVID-19, Metropolitan State University of Denver Athletics announced Wednesday that its events will played behind closed doors for the near future."
"The games will still be played, but only essential personnel will be admitted."
"Games can be viewed online at roadrunnersathletics.com/tv."
In addition, attendance at the NCAA Division II winter sports championships will be affected as announced on Wednesday. NCAA President Mark Emmert issued the following statement:
"The NCAA continues to assess the impact of COVID-19 in consultation with public health officials and our COVID-19 advisory panel. Based on their advice and my discussions with the NCAA Board of Governors, I have made the decision to conduct our upcoming championship events, including the Division I men's and women's basketball tournaments, with only essential staff and limited family attendance."
"While I understand how disappointing this is for all fans of our sports, my decision is based on the current understanding of how COVID-19 is progressing in the United States. This decision is in the best interest of public health, including that of coaches, administrators, fans and, most importantly, our student-athletes."
"We recognize the opportunity to compete in an NCAA national championship is an experience of a lifetime for the students and their families. Today, we will move forward and conduct championships consistent with the current information and will continue to monitor and make adjustments as needed."
In an update late Wednesday, NCAA staff clarified that at its Division II Wrestling Championships in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, public admission would be modified as follows:
Regarding the NCAA Division II Track and Field Championships, the NCAA staff referred to the statement by Emmert and added, "Further information on these details will be communicated as soon as possible."
- Each participating student-athlete and coach, within the travel party limit, will receive six all-session wristbands for admission.
- These wristbands will be provided complimentary.
- We will distribute these wristbands at the coaches meeting tomorrow for you to distribute appropriately.
- No spectator/fan tickets will be sold. Any purchased tickets will be refunded. Customers with questions on the refund process should contact their original point of purchase.
The student-athlete banquet on Thursday for the national track and field meet has been cancelled.
