(Chadrad Sports)- The Sioux County and Crawford girls and the Sioux County and Morrill boys will advance to the championship games at the Harrison Holiday Tournament today after winning their opening rounds Friday.
The Crawford Lady Rams opened the tournament with a win over the Morrill Lions in a victory that came down to the wire. Ultimately, the Rams prevailed on a 51-45 margin. The Sioux County Lady Warriors easily handled Hay Springs, handing the Hawks a 64-32 defeat on the strength of a 27-0 run through the first quarter and a half. The Rams and the Warriors will square off this afternoon at 3:30 p.m. for the championship. The two teams met in their season opener a month ago, with Sioux County winning that match up.
The Morrill boys played their way into the championship round with a 62-30 win over the Crawford Rams. The Lions will take on the Sioux County Warriors at 5:15 tonight for the title. The Warriors won a nail-biter over the Hay Springs Hawks on a buzzer beater by Michael Comstock in the 45-44 victory. Sioux County led early in the contest before the Hawks took the lead mid-way through the second quarter. Hay Springs maintained the advantage until late in the fourth when the Warriors closed a six- point deficit to tie the game. Hay Springs pulled ahead again by one on a free throw but saw their hopes slip away in the final eight seconds.
The tournament will begin at noon with the consolation games between the Hay Springs and Morrill girls and the Hay Springs and Crawford boys.
