(Neb.)- Eagle Wrestlers To Enter Kearney Tournament
CHADRON, Neb. -- The Chadron State College wrestling team continues the grind toward March, this weekend at the Buffalo County Fairgrounds, as it enters the newly renamed Younes Hospitality Open, hosted by the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
The ninth annual version of the expansive event, formerly known as "Holiday Inn Open" begins at 8 a.m. MT, on Saturday, and will wrap up around 5 p.m.
It is believed to be the largest college tournament taking place this weekend, with entries coming from NCAA Divisions I and II, the NAIA, as well as junior colleges. Nearly 600 wrestlers are expected to take part on 16 mats, comprising both Amateur and Elite Divisions.
CSC wrestlers entered in the Elite brackets are Joe Ritzen (141 pounds), Caleb Haskell (149), Tate Allison (165), and Wade French (197). Seniors Brandon Kile and Chase Clasen will refrain from competition in order to focus on academic work. Fifteen others, mostly freshmen, will compete as Amateur.
The Eagles last attended the Kearney meet in 2017. In that year's tournament, five CSC wrestlers placed, including three in the Elite division and two in Amateur. Those placers in the Elite bracket included third, fourth, and fifth-place finishers. Haskell was fourth in his Amateur bracket at 149 pounds.
The action will be streamed on FloWrestling.com for a fee, and results are updated live at trackwrestling.com.
