(Neb.)- RMAC Names CSC's Grimes Field Athlete Of The Week
COLORADO SPRINGS -- Chadron State College sophomore track and field student-athlete Isaac Grimes opened up his 2019 outdoor campaign on a high note, claiming the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference men's Field Athlete of the Week honor, his first week of the season in competition.
Grimes, of Moreno Valley, California, won the long jump at Northern Colorado's Tom Benich Invite by going 7.74 meters (25- 4 ¾) to automatically qualify for the 2019 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
He won the event by 16 inches and the mark is the second-best of his career outdoors. In 2018, Grimes went 7.77 meters (25-6) while winning the long jump at the RMAC Championships.
His mark this weekend is the top long jump this season in Division II and 11th among all divisions. It also makes him the second athlete in the RMAC this season to auto-qualify.
The sprints and jumps star previously won Athlete of the Week recognition in early December, when he was tabbed both the RMAC and USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week.
Grimes begins his second outdoor campaign on the heels of a national title season in the long jump, and a national runner-up finish in the triple jump.
