(Neb)-Lady Huskers 6th Seed For Big Ten Tournament
LINCOLN - The Nebraska women are the 6th seed in the Big Ten Tournament, which starts Wednesday in Indianapolis.
The Huskers have a 1st-round bye and will have their opener Thursday at 6:45 MT against the winner of Thursday's game between Purdue and Illinois.
Nebraska's win Friday over Northwestern had guaranteed them either 6th or 7th, and it became the 6th seed when Minnesota defeated Michigan State yesterday afternoon.
The Huskers, who won 3 of their final 4 regular-season conference games to finish 9-9, are part of a 4-way tie for 6th but held the collective tiebreakers over Minnesota, Michigan State and Northwestern with a 3-1 record against them.
Maryland won the Big Ten regular-season title with Iowa and Rutgers tied for 2nd, Michigan 4th, and Ohio State.
The tournament begins Wed afternoon with 12th seeded Penn State taking on #13 Wisconsin, followed by the game that will determine Nebraska's opponent - #11 Purdue against #14 Illinois.
The Thursday schedule starts at 10:00 MT with Northwestern versus Michgan State, followed by Ohio against the Penn State/Wisconsin winner, and Minnesota facing Indiana before the Huskers play at 6:45.
If the Huskers win, they play 3rd seeded Rutgers Friday's night a 6:45 p.m. (CT) - or 25 minutes after the conclusion of the evening session's first game.
All the games in the Big Ten women's tournament except for the finals will be live on the BTN. The championship game will be on ESPN 2 Sunday at 4:00 MT.
