Ann Arbor, Mich. - The Nebraska women's tough luck in close games continued last night as they lost at Michigan 67-61 to fall to 10-13 on the season and 5-7 in the Big Ten.
It was their 9th loss in games decided by two possessions or less, their 6th in 7 Big Ten games decided by 2 possession, and the school-record-tying 11th game decided by 6 or fewer points.
The Huskers trailed much of the night, but rallied in each half after trailing by double figures. They held Michigan without a field goal for the first 7:35 of the 4th quarter and led 51-49 with 4-minutes left, but a parade of free allowed the Wolverines to get and hold the lead.
The game was decided at the foul line with Michigan going 17-25, including 15-21 in the 4th quarter while Nebraska went to the charity stripe only 6 times, making 3.
Hannah Whitish led the Huskers with 13 points while Taylor Kissinger and Kate Cain each had 12, Cain adding 6 rebounds and 3 blocks. Nicea Eliely had only 4 points, but also contributed 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 blocks.
The Lady Huskers return home to take on Purdue Sunday afternoon in a game we'll have on KCSR with pregame at 12:45 and tipoff at 1:00.
It will be alumni weekend in Lincoln with more than 50 former Huskers scheduled to attend Sunday's game and be recognized at halftime.
