(Neb)-Hallsted RMAC Women's Field Athlete Of The Week
Kaleb Center CSC Sports Information Director
COLORADO SPRINGS -- Chadron State College track and field junior Ashton Hallsted was selected by a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference sports information committee as the league's women's Field Athlete of the Week following her performance at the Dave Little Invite in Spearfish this past weekend.
At the meet, Hallsted won the weight throw with a mark of 18.91 meters (62-00.5). It was the third time in three meets this season that she has exceeded her season best of 18.42 meters (60-05.5) from a year ago. Her throw on Saturday was two and a half feet shy of her season-best 19.72 meters (64-01.5) at the Colorado School of Mines Alumni Classic in December, but still further than any other RMAC athlete this season.
Hallsted ranks fourth, behind a trio of seniors, in NCAA Division II with December's mark. She is one of only seven nationally, and the only RMAC thrower to record a weight throw over 19 meters. She only needs to throw about six inches further to automatically qualify for March's NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships in Pittsburg, Kansas.
