SIDNEY - Memorial services will be held a week from Saturday in Sidney for former long-time Chadron High athletic director and coach Dennis "Buck" Edwards, who died last Friday at age 81.
The highlight of Buck's career as a coach was likely the 4 straight Class B girls golf titles the Cardinals won from 1981-84. That's still tied for the 2nd-longest consecutive streak in the state and tied for the 6th-most titles overall.
Those teams, which had the lowest all-class score 3 of those years, were led by 3-time state champion Susan Roll, who was inducted into the Nebraska High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2003. The team itself was recognized by the Hall in 2016 as that year's Dominant Dynasty.
Services for Buck Edwards will be Saturday, Feb 9, at 10:00 AM in the Sidney Evangelical Free Church. Gehrig-Stitt Mortuary in Sidney has a book of memories on its website gehrigstittchapel.com for condolences, photos and stories on Buck.
