(Neb)-Turnovers And Fouls Doom Lady Eagles Against #11 Fort Hays State
KEARNEY, Neb. -- The Chadron State women fell to 1-5 on the season with an 89-59 loss to 11th-ranked Fort Hays State Sunday afternoon as part of the UNK Crossover Classic.
The Classic pitted the Eagles and Colorado-Colorado Springs of the RMAC against Hay and Nebraska-Kearney, both former RMAC members now in the MIAA.
The Lady Eagles were done in again by the same two things - turnovers and free throws.
They outshot Hays from the field 48%-41%, but committed 28 turnovers that resulted in 33 points for the Tigers. They also had more than twice as many fouls - 27 to 12 - letting Hays attempt 31 more free throws and outscore CSC from the line 31-7.
The Eagles held an early lead when a pair of Taryn Foxen free throws put them up 6-4, but the Tigers scored 14 of the next 18 points and trailed again. It was 18-10 at the quarter, 36-22 at the half, and 61-44 going into the final period.
Three players scored in double-digits for the Eagles, Taryn Foxen with 12 points and Savannah Weidauer and Angelique Gall with 10 each.
Lanie Page led the 5-0 Tigers with 16 points, Tatyana Legette had 14 points and Kacey Kennett added ten. Legette recorded 9 of her points from the free throw line in 12 attempts. Four other individuals scored 8 points for the Tigers.
The Eagles open their Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference season on Saturday as they host Metro State of Denver in a men's-women's doubleheader. The women play first with a 4:00 tipoff.
