(Wyo)-Cowboys Win 4th Straight To Become Bowl Eligible
Albuquerque, N.M. (AP) - The Wyoming Cowboys dominated New Mexico 31-3 on the road yesterday to even their season record at 6-6 and become bowl-eligible.
Wyoming took control of the game from the outset, going 65 yards on the opening possession. By halftime, the Cowboys led 14-3 and the game was never seriously in doubt thereafter.
Neither team could pass - Wyoming had 4 completions for 41 yards and New Mexico 3 for 34, but the Cowboys ran for 366 yards and held the Lobos to just 49 on the ground.
Wyo had a big 1-2 punch as Xazavian Valladay had 192 yards and 2 scores while Nico Evans added 142 yards and another touchdown.
The Cowboys end the regular season as one of the hotter Mountain West Conference teams, winning their final 4 games after starting league play 0-4. There's no guarantee they'll get a bowl game, though.
Entering the weekend, there were 23 teams vying for the final 6 uncommitted bowl spots and they're the 6th qualified team in the Mountain West, which has only 5 guaranteed bowl tie-ins.
