(Neb)-Eagles Drop Doubleheader In Denver
DENVER - Chadron State dropped a tough softball doubleheader at Metro State-Denver on Saturday, losing 1-0 and 3-1 in games decided by home runs, the second on a 2-out, 2-run walkoff homer in the 7th
Both teams had 5 hits in the opener, but the only run came in the 5th inning when Metro's Serena Espinoza went deep off of Jessica Jeracki. It was the only extra-base hit of the game. Bailynn Meek had 2 singles for CSC.
Jeracki, who struck out 8 with no walks, fell to 7-11 on the season with 7 of her losses coming in shutouts against the Eagles.
In the second game, Metro used a walk, sacrifice, single, and fielder's choice to take a 1-0 lead in the 3rd, but the Eagles tied it in the 6th when Jessica Kleine doubled in Ellie Owens.
In the bottom of the 7th, CSC's Megan Horn hit the leadoff batter, then got a pair of groundouts before Annika Anderson ended the game with a 2-run homer.
Horn gave up 6 hits, struck out 4, and walked 3 in falling to 4-10. The Eagles had only 3 hits - Kleine's double - their only extra-base hit of the day - and singles by Meek and Kendyl Moody.
Chadron State fell to 11-22 (9-14 RMAC), while MSU Denver improved to 21-19 (16-10). The teams meet again Sunday in another doubleheader with first pitch at midnight.
