(SD)-SDSU Faces Ohio State In NCAA, USD Goes To The CBI
(CHADRAD SPORTS) - South Dakota State, the Summit League regular season and tournament champion, had an automatic berth into the NCAA tournament and got a 12th seed, matching them up with Ohio State in the West Regional in Boise.
The game is 2:00 MT Thursday on TNT with the winner to play either #4 Gonzaga or #13 UNC Greensboro in the second round on Saturday.
It will have been 12 days since the 24-8 Buckeyes last played while the 28-6 Jackrabbits will have a 9-day layoff. SDSU, who set a school record for victories this year, is 0-4 in the NCAA tournament since moving up from DII
. Ohio State must find a way to stop 6-foot-9 forward Mike Daum, the Summit League Player of the Year and finalist for the Karl Malone Award as the power forward of the year. Daum averaged 23.8 points and 10.4 rebounds per game.
Summit League runner up South Dakota was passed over for both the NCAA tournament and the NIT despite a 26-8 record.
The Coyotes did make the CBI - College Basketball Invitational - and will host 15-17 North Texas State Wednesday night at 7:00 CT. The winner will play the winner of the Mercer-Grand Canyon game.
It's the 17th postseason appearance overall for South Dakota and the third since moving to D- I. North Texas finished 8-10 in Conference USA, losing 7 of its last 8 games and falling earlier in the season at Nebraska 86-67.
Tthe Wyoming Cowboys, last year's CBI champion, failed to make any tournaments this year despite a 20-13...and remember North Texas State was invited to the CBI with a losing record.
