(Neb.)- Three CSC Athletes Accepted To Indoor Nationals

INDIANAPOLIS -- Both Chadron State College track and field teams will once again be represented at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships, marking the eighth year in a row that they have each sent qualifiers to either the indoor or outdoor meet.

Freshman Isaac Grimes, of Rancho Verde, California, will attend the meet for long jump. Grimes's season-long mark of 7.31 meters (23-11.75), set in December in Golden, Colorado, still stands as the No. 17 mark in Division II. He also put up a qualifying mark in the triple jump in February, however, was bumped too far down, since that time, to qualify in that event. Grimes will compete at 3:50 p.m. MT, on Friday, March 9.

Two Eagle women qualified in the weight throw, with both athlete's top marks coming at the RMAC Championships last weekend.

Sophomore Ashton Hallsted, of Casper, Wyoming, finished No. 15 in Division II with a heave of 18.42 meters (60-5.25) in Golden last weekend. She took second in the event, earning All-RMAC First Team and a career personal best.

Also taking the podium last weekend in Golden, and earning All-RMAC First Team with a career-best mark of 18.38 meters (60-3.75), was Ashlyn Hanson of Seward, Nebraska. Hanson, the No. 16 thrower in the nation, will be more familiar with the competition, having competed at the 2017 outdoor championships in Florida in the hammer throw. Many of the same women will be in the weight throw this year in Pittsburg, Kansas, where the DII indoor meet is to be held.

Fellow Nebraskan Michaela Dendinger, the outdoor shot put champion last spring and runner-up in the hammer, will be the No. 2 competitor in the weight throw field.

The two CSC women compete at 3:55 p.m. MT, on Friday, nearly simultaneously with Grimes's long jump, making it difficult for the teammates to converge and cheer each other on.

The first event begins on Friday, at 9 a.m. MT, and the meet runs through the evening of Saturday, March 10.
