OMAHA -- Chadron State College junior grappler Brock Thumm was ranked No. 5 in the nation in the final Basford rankings of the season, announced by Chris Basford on Tuesday.

Thumm, at fifth, is one spot ahead of Fort Hays State's Brandon Ball, whom Thumm defeated at the NCAA regional last weekend at New Mexico Highlands University. He is two spots behind Cal Baptist's Andrew Schulte, who won the regional, and four spots above Notre Dame's Drew Walker, who won the East regional and is the No. 1 seed in the bracket quadrant to which Thumm was assigned.

Chadron State received eight team points in the team rankings, as a result of Thumm's individual performance, and are tied for 26th nationally, ahead of six other West region teams.

The Basford wrestling rankings are compiled by Basford, a former NCAA Division II wrestler and former assistant at Nebraska-Omaha. They are based on NCAA Division II Championships points projections and are intended to assess the nation's top teams and individuals, for tournament purposes, entering the NCAA tournament set for March 9-10 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
