(Neb.)- Eagle SB Goes 0-2 On Friday In Utah
ST. GEORGE, Utah -- The Chadron State College softball team lost a pair of games at the Dixie State Easton Classic on Friday, despite out-hitting their opponents in the two games combined, 12-9, and scoring six earned runs versus the four they allowed.
"Consistency is our biggest challenge at this point," said coach Kaley Scearcy. "We have all the right pieces for success. We just need to put them together. The past two days have offered room for growth, and we look forward to another opportunity tomorrow."
In the first game, versus Dominican University, defensive miscues plagued the Eagles in the third inning, when the Penguins plated seven runs, to get out to an 8-2 lead. The Eagles batted 10-for-29 as a team, with center fielder Ellie Owens going 3-for-3, but left 10 baserunners stranded in the 8-6 loss. Pitcher Megan Horn took the loss falling to 1-2.
Later, California Baptist dealt the Eagles another close loss. Chadron State was not so prolific on offense, being held to two hits, but sophomore pitcher Jessica Jarecki allowed only two earned runs on four total hits in a complete seven-inning game.. Unfortunately for the Eagles, one of the four hits was a home run, and the team's fielding woes continued with three errors in the 3-0 loss.
Chadron State plays host Dixie State University on Saturday at 12:30 p.m., in a preview of next year's conference series in Chadron.
