(Neb)-Huskers Fall To #3 Michigan State
EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Nebraska stayed with Michigan State for about 10:00 on Sunday, then the Spartans showed why they're the 3rd-ranked team in the country as they cruised to an 86-57 at home in the Big Ten opener for both teams.
Michigan State had dominated #5 Notre Dame start to finish Thursday night, but the Cornhuskers were down just 18-12 when the Spartans went on a 16-4 run and kept the lead in double digits the rest of the way.
The Nebraska starters were a combined 11-44 from the field as the Huskers shot just 27% despite hitting 10-22 from 3-point range while Michigan State was 47% overall but only 5-19 from long-range. They outrebounded Nebraska 48-34 and were 27-36 from the foul line to 13-20 for the Huskers'
The Spartans were led by Nick Ward, who matched his season high with 22 points as part of a balanced offense that included 15 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 blocks from Jaren Jackson and16 points and 7 assists from Cassius Winston. Nebraska's only double-digit scorer was James Palmer Jr, who had 15 points.
Michigan State is 7-1 with 6 straight wins since losing to top-ranked Duke, beating each team by at least 18 points, while the Huskers slip to 6-3. They host Minnesota tomorrow night.
