(Neb.)- Hoffman Excited As New Lady Cardinal VB Coach  Listen

(Chadron-Chadrad Sports)- When it comes to the accolades, Chadron's new head volleyball coach probably doesn't have much room left in her trophy case. Chadron High activities director Andy Pope announced last Thursday that Blakelee Hoffman will replace Don Matt as the Lady Cardinal volleyball head coach.

Over her playing career, Hoffman was a two time all-stater at Torrington, Wy High School and then went on to be a four year all-conference outside hitter at Black Hills State. She also broke nine school records at BHSU and was named an all-American one of those years.

Hoffman, a 6th grade teacher at Chadron Middle School, says working with children fueled her drive to be a coach, “I think it was during my time spent at camps, just helping kids with camps. Part of it to was that I wanted to be a teacher. I wanted to work with kids already, but once I started helping with camps then I realized this is fun.”

Hoffman said she was ready to jump when opportunity presented itself, but once the announcement was made that she would be the next volleyball coach at CHS, the nerves set in, “Oh gosh, so many mixed nerves, I mean excitement you know just nervousness because this is my first varsity coaching experience, but you know I think it's more excitement than anything because I have plenty of coaching experience and teaching experience behind me that working with these girls isn't anything new. Most of it is excitement.”

The Chadron volleyball program has been built in to a C-1 power in the last half of the past decade, Hoffman says a mix of passion and relationships will help continue that tradition, “You know, I bring a lot of passion to the game. Fortunately I know a lot of these girls because I taught them in my class but, they already know me as a person and as a teacher, it's not going to be a mystery to them and I want to try to build a program where I can get girls out there who will enjoy being out there, who will enjoy working with me, that's what I hope to continue.”

Hoffman says she and the Lady Cardinals will get a chance to work together this summer at several teams camps, and looks forward to the 2017 season.
