(Neb)-Coronavirus Rules Claim 2020 Western Wildlife Art Show

By: John Axtell Posted at: 06/25/2020 09:34 PM
CRAWFORD - The list of local events falling victim to the coronavirus pandemic continues to grow. One of the latest is next week's 47th annual Western Wildlife Art Show at Fort Robinson State Park.

The show board of directors says the safety of volunteers, artists, and visitors is vital, but the design of the park's Veterinary Hospital makes it close to impossible to maintain recommended social distancing and other COVID-19 guidelines.

The board also felt directives for catered dinners are not conducive to the Art Show style, further confirming the feeling that canceling is the best decision for all involved.

They regret the lost opportunities for visitors and the artists, who helped the board make the very difficult decision to skip this year and most of whom have already confirmed they will return in 2021 including featured artist Jana Van Housen of Aurora, NE

The Western Wildlife Art Show is a non-profit corporation under the name Fort Robinson Centennial Incorporated, and the board is working toward making it self-sustaining in the future through donations and benefactors.

Anyone wishing to donate or with suggestions for the future can either mail them to P O Box 531, Crawford NE  69339 or email them to westernwildlifeartshow@outlook.com.

The Western Wildlife Art Show Board of Directors CANCELLED the 47th Annual presentation for July 2-4, 2020 at Fort Robinson State Park, Nebraska due to the COVID-19 Directives by Governor Ricketts, the safety of our volunteers, our artists and the fact that keeping distance in the Veterinary Hospital would be close to impossible.   The directives for catered dinners are not conducive to our style and we feel this is the best decision for all of us involved.  We regret the opportunities lost for our artists and for any of our visitors.

The Artists have helped us make this very difficult decision and most of them will return in 2021 with a chance for you to purchase their paintings, sculptures, pottery, baskets, sketches, jewelry, photos and much more.  Jana Van Housen is our featured artists from Aurora, NE with a pencil sketch of a ram, meadowlark and our favorite buttes of Fort Robinson.

The Western Wildlife Art Show is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) corporation under the name, Fort Robinson Centennial, Inc.  This Art Show has been continuous since 1972 and we are proud of the Artists that join us every year.  Where else can you attend a Show of this quality held in an Historic Veterinary Hospital in which the artists display their talents in horse stalls?  This show has been presented for 46 years and we eagerly look forward to the years leading up to the 50th Anniversary Show.

Since 2016 the Children’s Wall of Art Contest has been a fun, successful event on July 3rd for any young artist to have opportunity to create art appropriate for their age. Awards for each age group are presented every year.

The Board is working toward making this Art Show self-sustaining in the future through donations and benefactors. We receive grants from Kimmel Foundation for all show awards and Children’s Wall contest winners. The Coffee Family Foundation supports the July 1 dinner for the artists and sponsors.

We are thankful to the Dawes County Travel Board for helping with Advertising & Promotions.  Our volunteers come from RSVP and our set up and tear down help is done by Job Corps young people.

We have many financial supporters from Chadron and Crawford area that donate every year.  Our greatest thanks and appreciation to all of you.
