(Neb)-CSC Giving Up On Holding Commencement This Summer
CHADRON - Chadron State College has given up on efforts to hold in-person graduation this summer to make up for the scheduled May ceremonies cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The college announced April 1st that the Spring Undergraduate and Graduate Commencement Ceremonies were postponed indefinitely with hopes of rescheduling in the summer, but President Dr Randy Rhine says things didn't work out.
Rhine says CSC consulted frequently with the State College System and the Panhandle Public Health District about the summer ceremonies and Gov Pete Ricketts' Directed Health Measures before his cabinet made the decision to cancel out of an abundance of caution.
As he did when he postponed the May ceremonies, Rhine is inviting all 2020 Spring graduates to return to any future commencement and walk across the stage, explaining that "they deserve to be recognized and the college can't wait to do that."
The first opportunity is the Winter commencement on Dec 18 - a date he says won't change unless the campus is closed to the public or new health directives provide that guidance.
