(SD)-Rapid City Priest Named Bishop Of Duluth
RAPID CITY, S.D. - The shuffling of Catholic leadership in Rapid City continues.
Last summer, Bishop Robert Gruss was named Bishop of Saginaw, Michigan, and last month Father Peter Muhich (Mew-ich), a parish pastor and cathedral rector in Duluth, Minnesota, was named as the replacement for Bishop Gruss.
Now Father Michel Mulloy, Rapid City diocesan administrator and Vicar General, has been named Bishop of Duluth, succeeding Bishop Paul Sirba, who died Dec. 1. His episcopal ordination and installation are scheduled for Oct. 1.
Bishop-elect Mulloy is a South Dakota native and was ordained a priest in 1979. He served parishes in the Sioux Falls and Rapid City dioceses before being incardinated in the Rapid City diocese in 1986.
Most of his ministry was serving in parishes until his full-time appointment as vicar general in 2017.
Bishop-elect Muhich is a 59-year old Minnesota native who was ordained a priest in Duluth in Sept 1989. He has served in parishes across the Duluth diocese, the last 11 years as Rector of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary with the added duties as a parish pastor the last 6 years.
