(Neb)-Main Street Survey Shows Rural Economy Improving, But Still Struggling

By: John Axtell Posted at: 06/19/2020 09:43 PM
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - The latest monthly survey of bankers in rural parts of 10 Plains and Western states including Nebraska, Wyoming, and the Dakotas suggests the economy remains weak as the coronavirus outbreak continues to affect the region.

The Main Street survey's overall economic index, which has 50 as the neutral point, more than tripled this month from 12.5 in May to 37.9 in June but that number still suggests a shrinking economy.

Creighton University economist Ernie Goss oversees the bankers' survey and says crop prices remain low with more than one-third of the bankers questioned expecting that to be a significant challenge over the next year.
