(Neb)-Neb Traffic Deaths Down By More Than A Third In April

By: John Axtell Posted at: 05/21/2020 11:51 PM
LINCOLN - Fewer motorists on Nebraska roadways due to the coronavirus pandemic led to fewer traffic fatalities in the state in April.

The Nebraska Dept of Transportation says 12 people were killed in traffic crashes on the state's roadways last month, down from 19 a year ago. There were no multi-fatality crashes in April, 8 deaths occurred in rural areas, 3 fatalities were motorcyclists, and one was a pedestrian.

The year-to-date fatality total is 54, down 9 from last year and the lowest through April in over 5 years. Traffic volumes for the final week of April were down 21% from the average for 2016-18. Traffic volume was abnormally low last year because of major flooding across the eastern half of the state.
