(Neb)-WNCC Distributes $400K In Federal Coronavirus Aid To 500 Students

SCOTTSBLUFF - Western Nebraska Community College has spent the past week distributing nearly $403,000 in federal coronavirus stimulus money to students facing financial challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which closed the WNCC campus and ended face-to-face classes for the spring.

College President Dr Carmen Simone says 500 students received checks ranging from $250 to $800, based on a combination of spring class credits and their financial aid package. The money is to help with unforeseen expenses such as food, housing, technology, health care, and child care.

Dr Simone, who came to WNCC just weeks before the pandemic struck, says the school is grateful to the support provided to the students by the CARES Act. She's also pleased with the way the WNCC staff moved quickly to get the money into the hands of students as fast as possible.

Simone is encouraging current WNCC students to apply for any remaining funds. There is no deadline to apply, but students are urged to act as soon as possible because funds are limited.
The WNCC Foundation has a Student Emergency Fund available to any student who has a need for immediate help with finances outside of tuition costs.
