(Neb)-Dawes County Govt Buildings Closed To Public, Employees Still Working  Listen

By: John Axtell Posted at: 03/24/2020 10:24 PM
CHADRON -  All Dawes County government buildings are now closed to the public until further notice.

The County Commissioners took the action Monday morning in a meeting that 2 of the 3 members attended by phone.

Commissioner Jake Stewart, the only board member at the Courthouse for the session, says they'll review the closure at each of their meetings - normally held 2 weeks apart but with the next one on April 14.

Stewart says closing the courthouse to the public while keeping all employees on their regular schedules is intended to protect those on both sides of the counter, but especially the workers who keep county government functioning and serving the public.

Stewart says each county building has lists posted on its outside doors with contact information from each department housed there as well as information on obtaining services from them.

Anyone needing to leave documents at the courthouse can use the ballot dropbox outside the east entrance, and Stewart encourages anyone with questions or needing more information to call the appropriate county office or elected official.

The 3 main Dawes County buildings in Chadron are the courthouse, 342 Main - whose offices include Veterans Services, and 250 Main, home of the county attorney and Nebraska Extension.
