(Neb)-Permanent Repair Plan Set For Irrigation Tunnel

By: John Axtell Posted at: 11/23/2019 11:40 PM
GERING - The boards of the Goshen and Gering-Ft Laramie Irrigation Districts have settled on long-term repairs for the century-old Ft Laramie tunnel, which collapsed in July and left over 100,000 acres of farmland without water for 6 weeks.

The repairs will be similar to the temporary repairs that put the tunnel back in operation - using ribbing supports and grout to stabilize the interior of the tunnel while additional grout will be allowed to harden on the outside to stabilize the exterior.

When the concept was first offered in the summer, estimates were as high as $60-million dollars. Goshen district officials say the current estimate is $6-million which could go as high as $15 million depending on whether additional issues arrive. The 2 district will split the cost.
