(SD)-Pine Ridge Father Pleads Not Guilty To State And Federal Charges In Infant Son's Death

By: John Axtell Posted at: 11/22/2019 10:12 PM
A Pine Ridge Reservation father entered Not Guilty pleas this week to federal and state charges for allegedly accidentally smothering his baby while the two slept together.

Prosecutors say 42-year-old John Jealous of Him Sr. was under the influence of drugs and alcohol when he rolled on top of his 8-month-old son last August at their home near Pine Ridge.

Jealous of Him is charged in federal court with involuntary manslaughter and in state court with felony child abuse. The charges in both courts say he failed to provide proper care for his son, subsequently fatally suffocating the baby.

If convicted, Jealous of Him faces a maximum of 8 years on the federal manslaughter charge and 15 years on the state child abuse charge.
