SCOTTSBLUFF - Collisions between vehicles and deer usually result in extensive damage to the the vehicles, but an accident early Wednesday evening on Highway 26 west of Scottsbluff may have taken that to the extreme as the vehicle caught fire.

Scotts Bluff County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Troy Brown says 25-year-old Meghan Bochanski told deputies that a deer jumped in front of her SUV just east of Henry and the impact caused the SUV to catch fire.

Bochanski was able to get out unharmed but as the fire expanded to the entire SUV, traffic on the highway was diverted through Henry to Highway 92. Firefighter were able to extinguish the blaze and reopen the highway in about half an hour.
