(Neb)-CSC VP Wins "Super Chili Bowl" Cookoff
CHADRON - The first Super Chili Bowl chili cookoff in Chadron between backers of Chadron State College and Colorado School of Mines was won Saturday by Chadron State College Vice President Jon Hansen.
Hansen beat out over a dozen other competitors to win the event held ahead of the Chadron State-Colorado Mines football game, won by Mines 70-28. He said the recipe came from his mother-in-law and that'd he'd learned to cook if for his wife while in the army.
The CSC athletic department is looking at the possibility of the chili cookoff becoming a yearly event when the schools meet in football.
Chadron State Foundation executive director Ben Watson was one of the competitors and says that informal chats with other cooks, members of the public who ate the chili, and alumni office and athletic department staffers indicated all were pleased with how things went.
The football game normally rotates each year between the two campuses, but the departure from the RMAC next year of Dixie State has shaken up the schedule and Mines will return to Chadron again next fall.
