(Neb)-Erdman Announces Re-Election Bid
BAYARD - Incumbent 47th District State Senator Steve Erdman of Bayard has announced he's running for re-election. Erdman's district covers the entire Panhandle except for Scotts Bluff, Dawes, and Sheridan Counties plus the eastern part of Box Butte County
A Republican generally considered one of the most conservative members of the officially non-partisan Legislature, Erdman is probably best known for his efforts for property tax relief and against government spending.
He considers one of the highlights of his first 3 years in the legislature to be last year's passage of his bill allowing a reduction in tax valuation partway through a year in which property owners suffered a major loss from flooding or other disasters.
Erdman told Rural Radio News his priorities for the future remain providing meaningful property tax relief - especially for farmers and ranchers - and convincing his colleagues that the fairest way to value ag land for taxes is by its productivity, not market value.
Erdman joined the Appropriations Committee last year and says he's disappointed his colleagues didn't set spending priorities first, feeling they approved proposals based on who made a good presentation.
