(Neb)-Rushville Man Charged In Fight With Bayard Police Officer
BRIDGEPORT - A Rushville man was arraigned Wednesday morning in Morrill County Court on multiple charges from an altercation Saturday night in which he allegedly punched and bit a Bayard police officer and took the officer's stun gun.
25-year-old Colby Bowers is charged with Felony 3rd Degree Assault on an Officer, Obstruction, Resisting Arrest, and Criminal Mischief.
Court documents say the officer had responded to report of a fight and was trying to find out what had happened when Bowers pushed him away from a man with blood on the side of his face, then punched the officer in the face - breaking the officer's glasses and cutting his lip.
The officer said he tried to deploy his stun gun, but wound up struggling for it with Bowers on the ground. Bowers bit him and gained control of the weapon.
The officer then drew his gun and, as more officers arrived, Bowers threw the stun gun to the ground and surrendered. As he was being placed in a patrol car, though, Bowers allegedly told the officer he would find and assault him once he was released.
