(ND)-ND AG Asks SD For Unbiased Help In State Agency Investigation
BISMARK, N.D. (AP) - North Dakota Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem has asked South Dakota authorities to help investigate a North Dakota state agency that allegedly violated state law on contract bidding.
State Auditor Joshua Gallion released a report last month that said the ND Dept of Commerce awarded contracts totaling more than $87,000 for the state's new "Be Legendary" logo without taking bids.
The logo contract initially sparked criticism earlier this year when it was first awarded because it went to a Minnesota firm headed by a woman who once worked for North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum's old software business in Fargo.
Attorney General Stenehjem says he wants an investigator who has no knowledge of the audit or the agency to conduct the probe, so he's turning to the state's neighbor to the south.
The Commerce Department says it did nothing wrong but has identified where some improvements can be made.
