(Neb)-CSC Class Hosting Conference On Hate
CHADRON - Chadron State College seniors majoring in Social Work are hosting a free conference Wednesday from 8-4:00 in the Student Center Ballroom titled Hate: How it Preys on our Fears and Ignorance.
There's no registration required and lunch will be provided.
The conference includes a wide range of speakers, highlighted at 12:45 by former Chicago Cubs baseball player Chris Singleton, whose mother was among the 9 people killed in a 2015 hate crime shooting in a Charleston, SC, church.
Singleton forgave the shooter and has shared his story with more than 35,000 students and on ESPN and CNN with his mantra "love is stronger than hate." He will remain in Chadron after the conference to talk with students on Thursday before offering a longer presentation titled Love Your Neighbor that evening at 7:00 in the Student Center Ballroom.
Other conference speakers include author-social worker-peace activist Sammy Rangel - Executive Director and Co-Founder of Life After Hate, Nebraska-Omaha professor and Secret Kindness Agents Project found Dr Ferial Pearson, and attorney and ACLU lobbyist Spike Eickholt.
Several CSC students will talk about their own personal experiences with hate, and Nebraska State College System Chancellor Dr Paul Turman will deliver the concluding remarks..
