(Neb)-Chase Of Semi Leaves Plenty Of Damage In Its Wake
SCOTTSBLUFF - A Canadian truck driver is facing multiple charges after leading police on a chase in Scottsbluff Wednesday night that left swath of damage in its wake. 35 year old Henry George Funk of Alberta is being held on suspicion of DUI, flight to avoid arrest and leaving the scene of an accident.
Scottsbluff Police Sergeant Cody Enlow says officers responding to a report just after 10:30 p.m. of a truck hitting a pole and fire hydrant at a parking lot saw a flatbed trailer at the entrance of the lot and gave chase to a semi tractor leaving the scene.
Sgt Enlow says the semi continued east, running a red light at Hwy 26 and topping 65 mph going past Western Nebraska Community College.
The truck eventually reached Western Nebraska Regional Airport and drove through a fence, over cornfields and across runways before shearing off a wooden power pole and taking out several hundred feet of chain-link fencing and posts.
Enlow says the truck finally spun out and overturned, landing on the passenger side. Funk was apprehended after a brief standoff, taken to the hospital for medical clearance, then lodged in the Scotts Bluff County Detention Center
