(Neb)-Chadron VFD Open House And Spaghetti Feed Today Listen
CHADRON - This is National Fire Prevention Month and next week is National Fire Prevention Week with the theme "Make Haste - Create a Safe Place Today."
The Chadron Volunteer Fire Department is celebrating with its annual Open House and free Spaghetti Feed tomorrow from 10:00-2:00 at the Fire Hall.
Fire Department spokesman Travis Cross says it's a chance for the department to say "thank you" to the community for its support, show off its equipment, and increase the community's fire safety awareness through a variety of exhibits and demonstrations.
Although the Spaghetti Feed is free, Cross says donations are welcome and encouraged because it is a key fundraiser for the Chadron fire department.
The department does get tax dollars from the city to purchase fire trucks, but relies on donations, memorials, and fund drives for other equipment including its rescue units, command vehicle, and its training center of West 6th Street. Cross says most of tomorrow's will go toward the training center.
The fire department will conduct demonstrations of some of its equipment, but other agencies are participating as well. Cross says the Nebraska State Patrol, for example, is bringing its seat belt accident simulator.
Today is also National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Day. Flags across the country are flying at half-staff in honor of the day and those being remembered. Under the proclamation from President Trump and the nation's governors, all U.S. and state flags will fly at half-staff from sunrise to sunset.
