(Neb)-Chadron "Sex-For-Drugs" Suspect Arrested In New Mexico
CHADRON - A man sought by Chadron police for the past 3 weeks in a sex-for-drugs investigation involving a minor has been arrested in New Mexico.
45-year old Ronald Atcitty is in custody in Farmington on charges of attempted sexual assault of a child, attempted possession of child pornography, solicitation of prostitution under the age of 18, and enticement by electronic communication device.
Bond for Atcitty has been set at 10% of $250,000. It's not know if he intends to waive extradition back to Nebraska.
Chadron Police Investigator Brewer Newton says the case against Atcitty began on Sept 11 when a minor reported that a man in his 40s had offered to trade drugs for sex. The minor also provided police with the suspect's first name - Derek - and electronic conversation
Investigator Newton says that allowed police to conduct a sting, communicating electronically over the next few days with "Derek." Despite that, police were unable to track him down, but after a few weeks additional information was developed that tied the phone number and a Chadron residence to Atcitty, who'd been working in the area temporarily.
Once he had the name, Newton attempted to locate Atcitty, but discovered he'd left the area and likely the state. Newton obtained an arrest warrant and began working closely with law enforcement elsewhere in Nebraska as well as South Dakota, Colorado, and New Mexico. Police in Farmington located and arrested him on Wednesday.
Newton offers his thanks to all the agencies that participated in the effort to find Atcitty and especially those that took part in the arrest.
