(Neb)-Inmate Dies Of Injuries From Sept 16 Prison Assault
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services says an inmate injured during a prison assault earlier this month at the prison in Tecumseh has died.
40-year-old Anthony Davis, who was serving 3 life terms, died Saturday at the Lincoln hospital where he had been treated since the Sept. 16 assault.
Officials haven't named the inmate who assaulted Davis because the incident is still under investigation by the Nebraska State Patrol. The death will also be investigated by a grand jury under a state law requiring one anytime a person dies in custody or while being arrested.
Davis was sentenced in 2014 for the 2012 home invasion shooting deaths of 44-year-old Miguel Avalos and his sons 18-year-old Miguel Avalos Jr. and 16-year-old Jose Avalos. All 3 were shot after Davis broke into their home to steal drugs and money.
