(Neb)-History In Action Day At Dawes Co Museum
CHADRON - The Dawes County Historical Society holds its 23nd annual History in Action Day today from 1:00-5:00 at the Dawes County Historical Museum 3 miles south of Chadron off Highway 385.
Society board member Suzy Jones says that as always, there will be activities, demonstrations, and exhibits for all ages representing frontier life in Dawes County...but with a special focus for kids.
Activities this year include making apple cider, horse-and-buggy and tractor haywagon rides, butter making, and corn shucking
Jones says many of the demonstrations that are part of History in Action Day underscore how difficult life was generations ago, when it might take days to plow fields that modern tractors can handle in just a few hours or when a trip to town and back might take all day.
She hopes visitors take advantage History in Action Day to checkout all the museum's exhibits such as the Heesacker Toy Collection, Carpenter's Cove Barber Shop, Blacksmith Shop, one-room schoolhouse, and the unique Marcus Cain Equipment Collection.
Jones says lunch and homemade ice cream will be available, but she's most excited about homemade pies that will be on sale.
Admission is free, but Jones says donations are always appreciated.
