(Neb)-Author Of Book On Sandhills At Sandoz Center Today
CHADRON - Nebraska native and author Bryan Jones is in Chadron today for a free presentation this afternoon at 4:00 in the Sandoz Center on his book, “North of the Platte, South of the Niobrara: A Little Further into the Nebraska Sand Hills.” An autograph session will follow
Jones, who spent 3 decades as a teacher and 11 years operating a beef stocker-feeder operation, says his book is about the people and places of the Sandhills.
It offers stories told by residents of the Sandhills that Jones interviewed over 12 years while driving more than 75,000 miles in the region.
One part of the book that Jones thinks residents of this area may find interesting is an update on the descendants of author and Sheridan County native Mari Sandoz, the namesake of the building where he'll be speaking.
Jones says he had an open mind when he started with no expectations about the stories he'd be hearing, so he was surprised to discover the length and depth of relationships shared by residents of the Sandhills.
Jones says he's seeing cracks developing in relationships as ranchers take sides on the issue of wind farms in the Sandhills.
Bryan Jones is at the Sandoz Center Atrium this afternoon starting at 4:00 and will remain afterwards to sign copies of "North of the Platte, South of the Niobrara: A Little Further into the Nebraska Sand Hills."
It's free and open to the public.
