(SD)-Valentine-Area Father And Son Killed In Plane Crash
CROOKSTON, Neb. (AP) - South Dakota authorities say a Valentine-area father and son died Sunday when their single-engine plane crashed in a pasture near their farm on the border of South Dakota and Nebraska.
Todd County Sheriff Barry Bailey says federal authorities are investigating the crash that claimed the lives of 39-year-old Clint VanderWey and his 16-year-old son, Jed.V
Wayne Rundback, Clint VanderWey's father-in-law and Jed's grandfather, says the pair took off Sunday evening, with a search-and-rescue mission beginning around 10 p.m. when they failed to return. Clint VanderWey would fly to monitor his irrigation system.
Jed VanderWey was a sophomore at Valentine High School and the school district made counselors available to students, faculty, and staff on Monday. Funeral services will be held next Monday at the United Methodist Church in Valentine.
