(Neb)-Truck Driver Given A Year For Accident That Killed Mitchell Teenager
KEARNEY, Neb. (AP) - A North Carolina truck driver has been sentenced to a year in jail for a June 2017 fatal accident near Kearney that claimed the life of a Panhandle teenager.
39-year-old Drew Davis of Gastonia was credited with 163 days already served.
Davis had pleaded No Contest to misdemeanor vehicular homicide in a plea agreement after prosecutors lowered the charge in the death of 14-year old Rachelle Kort of Mitchell.
Prosecutors say Davis had parked his semi on the south shoulder of I-80 near the Odessa exit to look up directions, but when he merged back into traffic he struck the car in which Kort was riding.
