(SD)-Rapid City Airport Dumps Water From Sewage Lagoon On Land
RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - Rapid City Regional Airport executive director Patrick Dame acknowledges the airport recently dumped over 74,000 gallons sewage on its own property without permission from South Dakota regulators, but says they didn't know they needed it.
Dame says the airport contacted the state Dept of Environment and Natural Resources.before it pumped the sewage from its lagoon, but that the DENR did not make it clear a permit was necessary. A DENR spokesman says the agency is trying to determine if any contamination has occurred.
Dame says the airport has been looking at ways to remove excess wastewater that accumulated in its septic lagoon due to the combination of heavy rain and increased passenger traffic this summer.
