(SD)-No Results In Latest Search For Feb Runaway From Group Home
RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - The search for a girl missing since she ran away from a group home in the Black Hills more than 6 months ago when she was 9-year old resumed yesterday, despite the fact it was the middle of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
A group of about 30 authorities and volunteers assisted by 2 cadaver dogs headed out at 6:30 in the morning, following the grid-search arc pattern centered on the Black Hills Children's Home near Rockerville that's been used all summer in the search for Serenity Dennard, who is presumed dead.
The searchers trekked through tall grass northeast of the children's home for any evidence of Serenity and continued until they'd fanned out to 3-miles.
Pennington County Sheriff Kevin Thom told Black Hills Fox tv that he is committed to bringing Dennard home, so the search will continue until she is found. Last week's search used only dogs and their handlers.
Sheriff Thom says each week's search is planned out, with organizers sitting down early in the week to decide where, when, and how the effort will be undertaken - explaining that it's driven by the weather, resources available, whether any new leads have come in, and what's already been search.
