(Wyo)-Likely No Approval For Hemp Growers Before Next Season
By: John Axtell Posted at: 08/07/2019 09:38 AM CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - State officials say it looks like Wyoming farmers won't be able to start growing hemp until next year because the U.S. Department of Agriculture won't review state plans for hemp until it finalizes the broader rules for the entire industry.
Wyoming Dept of Agriculture spokesman Derek Grant says the department has reached out to the USDA several times in recent months about the status of the hemp program and has been told development of the rules is moving forward and they hope to have them ready by this fall.
Wyoming lawmakers voted to legalized hemp, the non-buzzed cousin of marijuana, this past winter, hoping the crop will provide a new economic opportunity for Wyoming farmers.
