(SD)-Accidents Between Bison And Vehicles Up At Wind Cave NP Listen
HOT SPRINGS, S.D. (AP) - Rangers at Wind Cave National Park in South Dakota have noticed an increase in the number of bison-vehicle crashes this year.
After none last year and just 2 in 2017, neither of which seriously injured the big mammals frequently but incorrectly called buffalo, there have been 6 so far this year resulting in the deaths of 3 bison.
Wind Cave Chief of Interpretation Tom Farrell says he doesn't know why the number of traffic accidents involving bison is up this year, adding that he also doesn't know why it was down last year.
Farrell says the latest crash happened late Saturday night when a local woman driving a car on Highway 385 near the north end of the park struck and killed a bison.
