(Neb)-Guilty Verdict In Thrill Kill Murder/Dismemberment Of Lincoln Woman
WILBER, Ne. (AP) - It took a jury less than 3 hours Wednesday to find a Lincoln man guilty of 1st-degree murder in the slaying and dismemberment thrill killing of a Lincoln woman he and his girlfriend selected as their victim through social media.
This is the 4th week of the trial of 52-year old Aubrey Trail, who was also convicted of criminal conspiracy to commit murder in the 2017 death of 24-year ol Sidney Loofe.
The same jury will now hear evidence on whether Trail should be given the death penalty or sentenced to life in prison without parole. His girlfriend, Bailey Boswell, is scheduled for trial later this year on the same charges
Trail slashed his neck June 24th and didn't return to the courtroom until Tuesday, when he took the stand to testify. He pleaded just before the state of the trial to illegally disposing of a body - insisting he'd accidentally killed Loofe but tried to cover it up because he was certain no one would believe him.
This time, he said his previous stories about Loofe dying accidentally while a multipartner sexual fantasy was being filmed in an apartment bedroom in Wilber were just lies.
Trail still maintained that Loofe's death during rough sex was an accident, explaining that he made up stories, including one about killing 14 other people, to throw investigators off track in hopes that Loofe's body wouldn't be found or that he could talk his way out of prosecution.
Loofe's body was found in 14 pieces in ditches along a state highway weeks after her November 2017 disappearance.
