(Neb)-Rushville Pool Bond Passes By 4 Votes
RUSHVILLE - By a narrow 4-vote margin, Rushville voters yesterday approved an $850,000 bond issue to help fund a new outdoor pool and renovation of the city's existing indoor pool. The tally in the all-mail vote 115-111 with 1 ballot unreadable.
Kris House, one of the leaders of the pro-pool campaign, says she's pleased with the better than 40% turnout for the special election and she hopes that as the project moves forward, those who voted no will come to support it as well.
The current Rushville pool was built about 60 years ago and has not been aging well in recent years. Pool supporters formed the SOS - Sink or Swim - Committee and received city support to hire Burbach Aquatics to design and oversee a project.
House says Burbach, which also designed the Chadron Aquatics and Wellness Center, will now serve as the engineer for the project and assist with a formal capital campaign that will include expanded grant-writing efforts.
Pool supporters hope to raise full funding and start construction by the end of next summer with a goal of opening the new pool in summer 2021
