(S.D.)- Jewel Cave Hosts Special Holiday Activities
Custer, SD – Jewel Cave National Monument is hosting a number of special events in celebration of July 4th. The upcoming holiday week is one of the busiest tourism weeks in the Black Hills. The Monument encourages visitors and local residents to #getoutside and #FindYourPark.
Beginning today, the Monument starts its Lantern Tours at the Historic Entrance. Tours will be offered at 12:45 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase at the visitor center kiosk on a first come first served basis; advanced reservations are not available. Furthermore, Wild Caving Tours are also available on Saturday, July 6. Reservations are required for these tour spots and can be made by calling the visitor center at (605) 673-8300.
On Friday, July 5, President Theodore Roosevelt will be visiting the Monument from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Gib Young, a professional living history interpreter, will be conducting first-person programs about the life of the former president. He focuses mainly on the relationship of President Roosevelt and the National Park Service, as well as some of the successes and challenges with public lands during the early 1900s.
